Bruce C. Kilgour, D.M.D.
Dr. Kilgour received his Bachelor's of Science Degree from the University of Maine in 1971. From 1971-1975, he attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, D.M.D. Dr. Kilgour is a member of the Maine Dental Association and the American Dental Association. He has attended over 600 hours of continuing education in all aspects of dentistry, given by leading national and international specialist in their fields.
In 1977, Dr. Kilgour purchased the Augusta practice of Dr. Leom Cheney, which Dr. Cheney started in 1935. Evergreen Dental Associates is the continuation of a dental practice that has been serving the Greater Augusta community for almost 70 years with the highest standard of care.
Outside the office, Dr. Kilgour enjoys photography and all types of outdoor activities. He and his wife of 29 years, Gail, enjoy traveling, especially to visit their two grown sons, John and Jamie.

Peter R. Shumway, D.M.D.
Dr. Shumway earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, in 1996. From 1998-2002, he attended Boston University where he graduated with honors, earning his Doctorate of Dental Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Shumway completed a General Practice Residency at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC, where he gained experience in all aspects of dentistry by working with trained specialists from many different fields.
Dr. Shumway was elected into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (Honor Dental Society) in May 2002. He is a current member of the American Dental Association, Maine Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
In July 2003, Dr. Shumway joined Evergreen Dental Associates as an associate, he became a partner in January of 2005. He performs all aspects of general dentistry, as well as many specialty dental services including, but not limited to, cosmetics, implants, root canals and extractions. Dr. Shumway keeps up with the newest technology and procedures by attending numerous continuing education classes. Evergreen Dental Associates also works with a tight group of specialists to whom we refer as needed.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Shumway enjoys sports and the outdoors. He currently lives in Winthrop with his wife, Kristin, daughter, Abigail and son, Tyler.

Dr. Garth M. Duff
We are extremely pleased that Dr. Garth M. Duff has joined our practice. He comes to us with a wealth of experience and shares our commitment to providing excellence in quality care and service to our patients.
Dr. Duff, born and raised in Presque Isle, Maine, attended the University of Maine in Orono and Tufts School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1975 with his D.M.D. degree. In the summer of 1977, after two years as a general dentist with Rural Health Associates in Farmington, Dr. Duff began his own practice in Presque Isle. Since its inception Academy General Dentistry has grown to include two additional partners and a staff of more than twenty. Dr. Duff has devoted his career to improving his skills, serving his patients and serving his profession. He has attended countless continuing education courses and seminars and has served as a member of the Maine Dental Association’s Executive Council and Peer Review Committee.
Dr. Duff and Pam, his wife of 37 years, now reside in Topsham. They have two children: Jennifer, a clinical psychologist and Ryan, a pharmacist. Their young grandson, Evan, is the delight of their lives. Dr. Duff also enjoys running, golf and partridge hunting.
Dr. Duff and Dr. Kilgour have been friends since college where they spent many hours studying together, both at Orono and Tufts. They have maintained a close personal and professional relationship over the years.
Dr. Duff is a tremendous asset to our team and he is very excited to have joined Evergreen Dental. This allows us to continue to see new patients and gives us the ability to treat our existing patients in a timely manner. His skill and experience is invaluable in continuing our mission to provide our patients the opportunity for optimum oral health and caring service. Dr. Heather S. Harper
We take great pleasure in announcing the addition of Dr. Heather S. Harper to our team. She comes to us with exceptional dental experience and a background and attitude that make her a perfect fit for our practice. She is looking forward to bringing her family to the Augusta area and we are very excited that she will be joining us!
Dr. Harper began her career in dentistry as a Dental Hygienist, having graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Dental Hygiene in 1994. She practiced dental hygiene in the Portland area for eleven years before entering Dalhousie University where she earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. While in dental school Dr. Harper completed a one year periodontal teaching elective, instructing fellow students in the knowledge and clinical skills needed in the treatment of periodontal disease. She also completed a one year elective in Pediatric Dentistry at the IWK Children’s Hospital where she worked with Residents and Pediatric Dentists.
Dr. Harper grew up in Brattleboro, Vermont and met her husband, Sean, while attending the University of Vermont. After graduation they moved to South Portland and began their married life, working and starting a family. Dr. Harper worked as a hygienist and she and Sean coached girls’ softball and basketball. They are the proud parents of three wonderful children Emily, Nicholas and Caroline. Dr. Harper enjoys spending time with family, running, gardening, outdoor activities and volunteering at her daughter’s school. She and her husband will be an asset to our community as well as our dental practice!
With the addition of Dr. Harper to our practice we will be able to better accommodate our growth in new patients. We will have more flexibility in scheduling and additional coverage for our emergency patients. Her expertise in treating children and young adults, as well as her hygiene experience, add a wonderful new dimension to our team. Please join us in welcoming her!
